OBIS is seeking an eDNA Data Officer to join the team!

eDNA job opening

OBIS is at the forefront of efforts to integrate molecular data into global open-access biodiversity systems. To advance this work, we are looking for a consultant to join our team as OBIS eDNA Data Officer, and contribute to two major European initiatives that are shaping the future of biodiversity data flows and digital ecosystems: DTO-BioFlow and eDNAqua-Plan.

The DTO-BioFlow project addresses key challenges in collecting, harmonizing, and integrating marine biodiversity data into the Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO). It promotes interoperability through standards, pipelines, data models, and access protocols, while exploring affordable technologies for scalable biodiversity monitoring. Running until late 2026, the project includes use cases and community-driven mechanisms to increase biodiversity data flows. OBIS contributes to Work Package 3, which focuses on connecting diverse biodiversity data sources, including citizen science, industrial monitoring, and metagenomic data to DTO infrastructures.

The eDNAqua-Plan project is designing a roadmap for a European digital ecosystem of eDNA repositories and an integrated, open-access reference library for marine and freshwater species. Anchored in the FAIR data principles, the project aims to support future biodiversity monitoring and mapping. Launched in September 2023, eDNAqua-Plan is structured around landscape analysis, recommendations, use case evaluation, and the development of a strategic blueprint for long-term implementation.

The consultant will support OBIS’s role in both projects through the following tasks:

Contract: Full-time, remote, 5-month consultancy (August–December 2025)
Application deadline: 17 July 2025, 17:00 CEST
