The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO is seeking an Individual Consultant to design and deliver a comprehensive training course on the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement! This is a fully remote, full-time 4-month consultancy mission.
✅ The mission:
This consultancy will design and deliver a structured, introductory online training course on the BBNJ Agreement in support of the Ocean Decade Capacity Development Facility (CDF) and the OceanTeacher Global Academy (OTGA). The consultant will map existing resources, compile up-to-date legal, policy, and scientific knowledge, and develop a 20-hour self-paced e-learning course, including modules on Ocean science, governance, and technical competencies relevant to implementing the BBNJ Agreement.
✅ The ideal candidate:
- Holds a university degree (preferably in Ocean Sciences, Law, International Relations, or related fields).
- Has at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in an international context.
- Can demonstrate knowledge of UNCLOS and the BBNJ Agreement, including legal, institutional, and scientific frameworks.
- Has experience in designing and developing educational or training materials, ideally for online platforms.
- Possesses strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a multicultural environment.
📅 Contract: Full-time, remote, from mid September 2025 – 15 January 2026
