OBIS Brazil

The Brazilian Biodiversity Information System (SiBBr) serves as the national node of the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS) in Brazil. As part of the global OBIS network, the SiBBr-OBIS node supports the mobilization, integration, and dissemination of marine biodiversity data to promote research, conservation, and the sustainable use of marine resources. Hosted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the node is operated by the SiBBr team, which provides technical assistance to Brazilian data publishers, facilitates national and regional collaboration, and ensures that marine biodiversity data are standardized and openly available through OBIS. OBIS Brazil plays a key role in connecting national institutions, researchers, and monitoring programs, fostering data sharing and contributing to global efforts to understand and protect ocean life. The node also participates in regional and international initiatives, offering training, outreach, and support to strengthen capacity in marine biodiversity data management. Through its partnership with OBIS, SiBBr contributes to improving the visibility, accessibility, and interoperability of marine biodiversity data from Brazil, enhancing the country’s contribution to global assessments and policy frameworks.
